The
Gearbox |
| The
gearbox is an Allison Torqmatic Model TX200-4A in early vehicles or
Model TX200-4B in late vehicles. The Allison gearbox is of the straight
through, hydraulically-operated, automatic type, all rotating drive
componentsbeing in a straight line from the input to the output end.
It comprises a 3-element torque converter with automatic lockup clutch,
planetary gearing, speed range clutches and a hydraulic system. Four
forward speed ranges i.e. 1-2, 3-4, 3-5 and 3-6, and one reverse range
are maually selected. Automatic shifts occur in each forward range. |

The
data plate |
 |
| Here
you can see the oil filler and the "kick down" actuator |

|
| Its
a bit hard to see, but there are two levers here. The foremost one
is connected to the actuator, and the one behind is the one connected
to the gearchange control. |
 |
| This
is where the gearbox oil filter lives. You can get to this without
removing the pack. |
 |
| Here
you can see the oil filter, inner end cap, and the outer end plate,
all held in by the twist around securing bar. |

inner filter end cap (right) and sealing end plate (left). |

The
Transferbox
The
drive comes from the engine on the left in this picture, and through
a series of gears and into the gearbox on the right. You can see
the transmission disconnection linkage going across the top of
the transferbox geartrain housing.
